Founded in 2015 and registered with the UCI in 2015, Matrix Pro Cycling ‘On The Drops’ compete in the top level of Women’s Professional Cycling. Their position as an elite UCI team has seen them compete in the Aviva Tour of Britain, the Matrix Grand Prix series (which ran alongside the men’s Pearl Izumi), and the one day Paris City Centre event ‘La Course’; all of which receive significant media and television coverage.
As part of their 2015 UCI registration, Matrix Pro Fitness were able to sign a series of high profile cyclists including team leader and double Olympic Medallist Laura Trott, and reigning world champion team pursuit rider Elinor Barker. Alongside Olympic and European champions, Matrix Pro Cycling also continue to work hard discovering and developing young riders. The full list of Matrix riders can be seen here.
Stefan Wyman has lead Matrix Pro Cycling as Team Manager since 2009, bringing ten years of experience managing women’s cycling teams. After initially turning down the position from founder Jon Johnson, Stefan was ultimately swayed by a ‘shared […] vision to get women’s cycling on TV’. Having seen firsthand the often chaotic and unsupportive management of Women’s Professional Cycling, Stefan’s aim with Matrix has been to ‘create a stable environment for riders in which they can best progress and achieve in their sport’, and to retain female riders to lead the sport in management and training roles.
Matrix continue to work by their mission statement:
Giving Stability, Rewarding Partnerships, Forging a Future
At Yellow Jersey, we gain a great deal from our sponsorship of Matrix Pro Cycling. It allows us to connect with an audience of dedicated cyclists and engage with them through the team, and it allows us to showcase our product in a professional context.
Sponsorship of Matrix Pro Cycling also allows us to promote and support women’s cycling in the UK. With female athletes collecting five out of team GB’s eleven medals for cycling in 2012, it is important that sponsors continue their promotion of the women’s competitions if we can hope for similar results at the Rio games. Longer stage races such as the Aviva Tour prove the audience for live and televised Women’s Cycling, providing a huge incentive to sponsors such as ourselves, encouraging further media, and continuing to expand the sport.
