After three fantastic years, we’re super excited to confirm that we will be partnering with British Triathlon for a further four years. We’re looking forward to sharing with you how you will be benefiting from our partnership in due course.
This week we’ve been working on our Age Group athlete offering and we’re pleased to announce that if you qualify to represent Team GB in your age group, you will qualify for a unique 20% discount. That’s our biggest discount ever!
To help out any readers who are budding age group athletes, we thought that we’d put together an overview of the “must-race” British Championships events in 2018 as well as the Triathlon and Duathlon qualifying events.
The British Championships
2018 British Age Group Duathlon Championships: Bedford Autodrome Duathlon 25th March 2018
Where better to get you in the racing mentality than a real race track? This duathlon includes the excitement of a mass start, and the thrill of racing around the smooth, fast tarmac of Bedford Autodrome motor racing track. Designed from scratch by former F1 driver Jonathan Palmer, the venue has been purpose built for speed and space so expect some standout performances on the track. There are plenty of great vantage points from which friends and family can view your performance and cheer you on!
2018 British Age-Group Standard Distance Triathlon Championships: ITU World Triathlon Leeds 10th June 2018
Returning to the vibrant city of Leeds for the third time, this event represents the pinnacle of triathlon competition in the UK and you will be competing on much of the same course as the pros in the World Triathlon Series that same weekend.
The championships is organised exclusively by British Triathlon in partnership with Leeds City Council, UK Sport and the ITU. The same experienced team who worked on the event in 2017 will be back with plenty of credentials including Accenture British Triathlon Mixed Relay Cup, Tri Liverpool and the ITU World Triathlon Series event in Hyde Park, three events well known for their event experience.
This route is on a unique ‘point to point’ course, with athletes taking to the waters in Roundhay Park and journeying to the finish line in Millennium Square in the heart of the city. The Yellow Jersey team will also be there to cheer you on so make sure to give us a wave as you speed past!
Check out the highlights of last year’s event:
2018 British Age-Group Sprint Distance Triathlon Championships: Woodhorn Museum Triathlon 15th July 2018
This old favourite is held at Woodhorn Museum in the QE2 Country Park which boasts a 16 hectare lake surrounded by developing woodland and open grasslands.
The swim will be in the warm, shallow freshwater lake. The undulating bike route will take you out towards Widdrington Village, before sweeping onto the coast road near Druridge Bay and then along to Cresswell village with some breath-taking views along the coast line. The run will be on the footpath that winds its way through the woodland and open grasslands that surround the lake. The route also passes the finish line at the end of each lap, so you’ll be boosted by the crowds to keep your motivation going long before you’re done.
The Woodhorn Museum Triathlon guarantees you a great race and is one of only a few events in the country to have attained the BTF 3 Star Mark of Quality.
2018 British Age-Group Middle Distance Triathlon Championships: The Festival of Endurance 8th July 2018
Run by our partners Castle Triathlon Series, this event is held at the beautiful Hever Castle in Kent. You’ll feel like a king or queen before you even receive your medal! This year promises another exhilarating and atmospheric celebration of ‘going long’ at the iconic castle. Loved by competitors and spectators alike the event is hailed the friendliest and most beautiful on the Tri Radar. Also known as The Gauntlet half iron, the event has been awarded with the 2018 British Triathlon Middle Distance Championships.
This course is made for a National Championship with the 1.9km swim involving a single loop taking in the main Hever Castle lake and a tributary of the river Eden. The 90km cycle (2 loop course) winds its way through the stunning High Weald of Kent and the Ashdown Forest.
The 21km run course is 2 loops of 10.5km and will take in the existing 5km Hever Castle Triathlon course but with a 5km extension via tracks and bridle paths though the historic local village of Chiddingstone. The course includes a strong off road element which allows a highly inspirational setting often praised and welcomed by the elite triathletes.
