Meet the new members
Two new members of the Great Britain Age Group Team have been chosen to join the existing Yellow Jersey Ambassadors for 2025. Following a competitive selection process, Tej Thaker and Sarah Myford were selected by British Triathlon and Yellow Jersey to join the five existing Ambassadors who are continuing in their roles from 2024.
To kick start their year working with British Triathlon and Yellow Jersey, Tej and Sarah attended a training day at British Triathlon’s Loughborough Performance Centre. In the morning, they were put through their paces on the bike in the lab with tests to determine their VO2 max and lactate thresholds, the results of which will help them in planning their bike training more effectively.
Over lunch, they had the opportunity to chat with Paralympians Dave Ellis and Claire Cashmore as well as fellow World Class Programme athlete Sophie Alden. In the afternoon, they hit the Powerbase Gym for strength and conditioning tests, this time, under the watchful eye of Loughborough University’s Head of Performance Services, Cormac Ryan

Talking at the end of the day, Tej said:
“Being an Age-Group Ambassador is amazing, my goal as an Ambassador is to inspire more people to get into triathlon. The vision I would like for triathlon is that it becomes less intimidating and a bit more inclusive. Personally I’d like to see more people from ethnic minorities get into triathlon and hopefully seeing someone like myself, someone relatable, on the start line, can inspire more people, to have access to the sport and be inspired to feel like they really can do well in it.”

Sarah added:
“I was 44 when I took up triathlon and as an Ambassador I’d like to encourage more older women to take up the sport. I’ve had seven children, and I want to persuade more women that they can take up triathlon. Additionally, I want to try and help keep young girls in sport. As I work in a school, I feel I’m in a good place – with teenage girls especially – to encourage them to stay in sport and I’d like to use this position to be able to do that.
“Triathlon changed my life. It gave me the confidence to do a degree, retrain as a teacher quite late in life and stand up in front of a group of 30 teenagers to teach them. I wouldn’t have had the confidence to do any of that without triathlon.”
